Part of that is the headphone amplifier. Nobody has explained to the home stereo nerd that headphones are designed to make your music portable. Instead he sits in his house and listens to music over headphones, presumably prog rock.

Which is why they buy headphone amps from Schiit. But hey, if you have to buy an amplifier from a company whose name sounds like a bad joke, this is the one to buy. In fact, none of what you are about to read is a joke. All of this is real.

We’re not kidding. This exists specifically to drive headphones that are the equivalent of strapping high-end, thousand-dollar speakers to your face.

Yes, believe it or not, there are headphones that your iPod just can’t handle. We’re talking enormous, closed-cup beasts that make you look like a ’70s refugee and really should come with the complete works of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer on vinyl. These are $600 headphones.
